Production[]

Production for Yo Gabba GabbaLand! was filmed at Utah Film Studios in Park City, Utah. It was originally set to premiere in late 2023, but was pushed to August 9th, 2024 due to one of the lead editors stepping down to recover from back surgery, and budget cuts[1].

Episode Structure[]

Each episode follows a similar format. In the opening theme of each episode, Kammy Kam, in a plain white background, appears from behind the original Gabba Land set and instructs the audience to say the magic words with her. She then shouts, "YOOOOOOOOOOOOO GABBA GABBAAAAAAAAAAAAAALAND!!" to transform Gabba Land into the self-titled Yo Gabba GabbaLand, and bringing the five mascot characters Muno, Foofa, Plex, Brobee, and Toodee to life.

The episode features 5 segments that are connected to each other as a plot. The main 3 involve Kammy and the Gabba gang doing an activity. Unlike the previous show however, the Dancey Dance and Super Music Friends segments are also connected to the story. After each main segment, a short clip is shown that shows a kid dancing around. The kid, aka Male/Female/Non-Binary/Genderfluid: boy/girl, says his/her/they/their name, followed by "I/We/They/He/She Like(s) To Dance!".

Other small segments include "Mark's Magic Pictures", "The Beat of the Day", "Kid Culture", and "Science with Mark Rober".

Near the end of each episode, Kammy Kam and the Gabba gang do a megamix about what they did in the main segments. After the megamix, Kammy and the Gabbas shout, "YO GABBA GABBA!!" one last time as the Gabbas transform back into their toy forms and Gabba Land reverts back to its original form. After Kammy waves goodbye and ducks behind Gabba Land, the end credits roll.

Differences from the original show[]

  • Gabba Land (now known as Yo Gabba GabbaLand) has become bigger and more realistic, and takes place in a wide land-themed environment. The original toy box set appears at the beginning and end of each episode.
  • The opening sequence is slightly different. Kammy appears from behind the Gabba Land set rather than walk into the white room space with the magic boombox like DJ Lance Rock. The offscreen children announce the Gabbas' names instead of the host.
  • 8-bit games are not used unlike from the original show.
  • Funny Faces are used with only one kid per segment. This segment also happens to appear more than once.
  • Numbers will always go up to no less or more than 10.
  • Storytime is narrated by a celebrity guest star rather than a kid. The kid however has the opportunity to make up what comes next in the story when asked. The story also happens to be shown in a puppet box.
  • Biz's Beat of the Day is renamed to “The Beat of the Day”. This time, there are multiple hosts, instead of just Biz Markie, including DJ White Shadow, Big Daddy Kane, and Reggie Watts. Each host also allows for each kid to imitate the beat they made in their own way (either by voice or instrument).
  • The Super Music Friends Show is now hosted in or around Gabba Land, rather than hosted in a live setting and broadcast through the mini TV. The Gabba gang also participates dancing along with the music.
  • The original series was filmed at 60fps/50fps; the remake is filmed at 30fps/25fps (which was used for the Super Music Friends Show in the original).
  • The closing sequence has the Gabbas recall the things they did in the episode with the host giving comments, rather than the host recalling themselves.
  • None of the international dubs are respectful to their dubs of Yo Gabba Gabba!
    • In addition, none of the international dubs have the jingle or the Super Music Friends Show dubbed.
    • Muno's voice actor in the said dub (Gauthier de Fauconval) is the only actor in all international dubs to reprise his role, Brobee's original voice actor (Patrick Waleffe) also appears in this dub, but rather as an additional voice, rather than Brobee.
    • DJ Lance Rock's Brazilian Portuguese voice actor (Claudio Galvan) voices Plex in this series
